Most controls are plain buttons: you press, something runs. Some controls carry a value you set. You choose this in the editor with the control's Kind. For the basics, see Build your first deck and the concepts page.
The three kinds that take a value
Toggle— on or off. Good for a setting that has two states.Level— a number across a range, for example the output volume from 0 to 100.Prompt— typed text, for example the name of a new folder.
Set the Kind
- Open
Edit decks…from the menu-bar popover on the Mac. - Select the control you want to change.
- Set its
KindtoToggle,Level, orPrompt. - Choose the action the value feeds into.
Two shipped examples
- Set the output volume. Use a
Levelcontrol so you can slide the volume between 0 and 100. - Make a new folder in a location you pick. Use a
Promptcontrol so you can type the folder's name when you use it.
A note on prompts
A Prompt asks for the text on the iPad when you use the control, then sends that text to the action on the Mac. As with every action, the iPad sends the action's name and your value, never a command.
Live state indicators, which show the current value back on the control, are a paid feature. See What's free, what's paid.
